our story

We’re Andy and Steph. We’ve been in hospitality for over 20 years, and in 2019 we put down roots in East London with Exale Brewery and Taproom. From day one, it’s been about fresh, small-batch beer, brewed weekly, and good times with great people.

Since then, things have got a little bigger. The Three Colts Tavern in Bethnal Green brings together proper East End pub spirit, an events calendar packed with gigs, parties and good excuses to stay for another. Over in Leyton, William the Fourth is a neighbourhood boozer with its own character, a love of great drinks, and a soundtrack that keeps things ticking along. Different pubs, different personalities, but the same idea at the heart of it all: good people, good times and no two visits quite the same.

In October 2025, we opened The Black Eel in Dalston, our biggest project yet. Housed in the historic former Cooke’s Pie & Mash Shop, it’s now a year into doing things its own way. Expect a main bar, karaoke, games, cosy lounges, a hidden garden, and Riley’s kitchen serving up bold Mediterranean plates and Sunday roasts, all under one very characterful roof.

For us, it’s never just been about opening pubs. It’s about creating places with personality, where the neighbourhood comes together for a quick pint, a big night out, a family roast or an occasion worth celebrating.
